As a minimum, the machine should be at least 12 meters (40 feet) above any obstructions within 100 meters (330 feet) in the prevailing wind direction, and preferably in all directions. There are many planning restrictions in the UK surrounding turbines and we have to accommodate them as best we can. Low towers on reasonably flat surroundings where ground sheer has an effect on the machine is almost a fore gone conclusion here due to planning restrictions but this is not a bad as obstacles. Where there are trees/buildings there will be turbulence caused every time the wind speed alters. This turbulence causes all turbines to search for the wind direction. Whilst searching they are losing performance plus causing wear and tear that would not be deemed as normal. Although britgroup Turbines are quiet there can also be an issue with obstacles capturing what noise there is and directing the noise in a particular direction where it may be unwanted.
